There was an update to Aperture 3 a couple of days ago, specifically to allow for D800 NEF files. Six and a half dozen I suppose - although I do think the Mac is more user friendly Good thing Xerox invented windowing systems for Apple to emulate, say they created it, then have others expound that MS copied Mac on the Windows thing. Well done to Apple for their speedy response to the D800:-)
lols.Īnyway -I have installed Snow Leopard and Aperture 3 works good. If there were no Macs Bill wouldn't have had anything to copy to make windows. That's funny about Macs being behind the curve. I haven't jumped to Lion yet, but Aperture 3.x.x is working fine on Snow Leopard (MacBook Pro, i7, 8GB RAM). (Same is true for Windows XP - you have to run Windows Vista or Windows 7 for some apps and/or upgrades to work.) OS X 10.5 (Leopard) is two generations old - not every update will work with it. given the camera was just released - i'd call that leading edge. The mac already has four solutions for processing D800 RAW files. It's your decision how you want to proceed with these options. Note that the installer doesn't check if you have a previous OS on the drive - it can be completley empty. However, they also don't provide you with an alternative to purchase the entire Lion installation disc. The only issue with this approach is that Apple's EULA states that you are purchasing an upgrade, not a clean install.

You can just purchase and download Lion from another Mac running the Mac App Store application, open the download's file contents, restore those contents into a USB drive and then you'll have a working USB installer of Mac OS X Lion.

This means that Snow Leopard is not required in order to install Lion. If you purchase Lion from the Mac App store, you can install it as a "clean" install with no need for any previous OS on your machine.

Sean - I went into the Apple Store and they told me that they (Glasgow) don't stock Snow Leopard so I had to order online - if I want to further upgrade from Snow Leopard then I can do that online.ĭ - I've heard that some people prefer Lightroom but I'm familiar with Aperture, plus after buying the D800 I'm skint so will have to do with Aperture for now:-) It also feels faster to me (with a 20,000 image database). Lens correction tool is an amazing feature that is missing from Aperture.
